Lying on the coastline of the Adriatic Sea, set in the very heart of Apulia, Monopoli is literally a unique city (as its name is made up of the two Greek words monos (only, single, unique) and polis (city)). Unique for the beauty of its mediaeval settlement, for its old small port, that stands as a guardian of the typical blue and red gozzi (local fishing boats), for the Aragonese castle, and for the boundary walls that have stubbornly continued for centuries to protect it from any threat that may possibly come from the sea.
Unique for the great variety of its contrade (localities or hamlets), one hundred in all, which give life to the surrounding countryside, including fortified farms, churches, villas, olive groves and almond groves. Precisely this peculiarity gave rise to the peculiar names that have been given to the rooms, with the purpose of confirming the close link with our land.
